How are House Points awarded? Is there a method behind the madness?
Right now, everyone gets House Points, regardless of age, depending on their former House affiliation. If your character is not a Hogwarts student (we know some people like that exist), then either the Hat will ascribe one to you or you can let us know where to direct your points.
Currently points are allotted for the following reasons:
1. Coming and Saying Hi OOC (Out of Character) * (Plus 5)
This means joining any of the OOC threads in the General OOC forum.
2. Coming to the Castle IC (In Character) (Plus 5)
This means posting in the Sorting Hat forum.
3. Posting a New Thread (Plus 5)
When you start a new thread, points are given to the House of the character who is in that thread. This applies to solo posts as well.
4. Joining an Active Thread (Plus 5)
Points will also be given to people who have joined the active threads. (I say "active" because no points will be given to people posting in the threads in the Archives, or threads that have been dead for over a month unless there is clear intent from at least one other player on that thread to revive it (which can be expressed by posting in it). Basically we can't have people posting in ancient threads for points. XD)
5. Contributing to the Monster Book of Monsters *
- For finding a monster to add to the list from any existing group of monsters, and yes, even the Harry Potter canon monsters count (Plus 2)
- For providing a link with a reasonably coherent description you haven't written (Plus 1)
- For writing a description yourself of 100-250 words (Plus 5)
- For creating a new monster yourself - please ONLY submit this with a description of 100-250 words (Plus 10)
- For making a drawing of any monster on the list, and yes we'll take multiple submissions (Plus 20)
6. Advertising *
This is to encourage people to share our RPG with others (and to support the Student Advisors, so it's MUCH MUCH appreciated).
- For posting H.O.W.'s advertisement on any other RPG (Plus 2 per ad)
- For submitting H.O.W. to a RPG list of some kind (eg: topsites) (Plus 5)
Note: Please be very careful as you do this, please respect other sites' rules and regulations (as in, don't get us banned - that's a negative five).
Once you have posted advertisements, or submitted us somewhere, please post it in this forum. Thanks!
7. Negative Points
Sometimes, given the activities of characters all over the place. So if your character is breaking things, stealing things, then they MIGHT lose points. If you think there is something unfair about it, PLEASE POST IT HERE or let Junky know!
8. House Cup
If we ever get to the point of awarding the House Cup, points will be tallied by dividing the total earnings of the House with number of members. So, if Hufflepuff has 98 points and Slytherin as 105, but Puff only has two characters and there are 7 Snakes, then Puff actually has 49 points and Slyth has 35. So Puff would win in that situation.
10. World Building: When you contribute history of a specific part of the world, you get points per country/region/village, it'll be between 5 and 20 points depending on detail (if you only want to mention a place with a one line "yeah this has X bar" kind of thing it may be 1 or 2 points). For example, you could create a whole village in detail, broadly contribute to a sense of a country's history, or write up specifically about a region!
10. Please do help Junky with this. It's not meant to be stressful and there are RL things we're all doing. So if she misses something, just drop her a note and she'll fix it asap. Thanks!
* - As these are OOC points, if you play more than one character, the points will go to a House of your choosing. This is of course incumbent on whether we know you're the same player behind two different characters. If we do, we'll get in touch and ask you.
(In the future, points may potentially be allotted, if your character does something cool that the school may appreciate, or if you as the player do something. However, as of now, the situation hasn't arisen yet, and there are no parameters. So in the interest of fairness, we're not doing this for now until we have a more coherent system so that Junky's brain doesn't explode!)
If you have thoughts about how House Points could work, please post them below and we'll vote or think on it and work it out!
