It had not occurred to Genny that Mkichaa had been feeling anything but disdain during their conversation.  When she saw the tear track down Mkichaa’s face, Genny blinked a few times and then looked down at the table with seeming concentration, embarrassed that she had perhaps judged the Slytherin too harshly.  Of course she would also have been affected by the state of the castle.  Now, as Genny watched her head off to the dungeons unknown, she was able to wish her a silent, but heartfelt good luck.

But then they were discussing showers and Genny got excited all over again.

"The water pressure is a bit unstable,"

“Any water pressure at all will be delightful!”  Genny quipped back, quickly pushing herself up from the table.  Before she could make it around, Jez already had the tent sprouting from the floor.

"It's in the back. Oh -- uh, don't take the facecloth off the mirror."

“Thank you, and I have a mirror anyway, so no worries.” In her excitement Genny took two steps towards the tent before her brain caught up.  “Correction.  I have a mirror in my bag, which I left in the hall.”  Which meant she also had no clean, un-charred clothes, let alone toiletries.  She smiled sheepishly at Jez, and muttered, “I’ll be right back.”

She bustled out through the doors and ignored the protest of her sore limbs to climb over the rubble to where she had stashed her things in what seemed like another lifetime.  Or at least a lifetime where the common room had still been an option, but even that thought wasn’t enough to ruin Genny’s mood at the moment.  She absolutely lived for showers, and this Jez was going to be her new favorite person.

Moments later she was back in the Great Hall, broom in one hand, overstuffed duffel in the other.  “I have my bag!”  She announced cheerfully, although perhaps unnecessarily.  Dropping said bag on a bench at the table she rooted through it quickly and came up with the same small bag that she used to take to the showers when she first came to Hogwarts. She held it up triumphantly, forgetting that she might want to be embarrassed by the bright pattern of unicorns and flowers in bright pink.  “And now I have what I need!”

“Okay. In the back, no mirror, right?” Genny recited the instructions and hustled over to the tent.  Hand on the flap she turned and flashed Jez a huge, heartfelt smile and gushed, “Thankyousoverymuch!”  Hoping this conveyed her gratitude sufficiently, she disappeared inside to shower the good shower.
